...This snake wouldn't blink an eye, neither will the skies fail to darken by the minute. God knows, setting out for this journey, I prayed that I had a smooth one.
There it is, rule no 5; "TO PRAY THAT YOUR ROAD BE SMOOTH ALL THE TIME, IS TO PRAY THAT THERE BE NO NIGHT & DAY"
With every breath within me, I resisted the urge to run. Jumping into the river was no option, I'll rather die here than go down there. The more my confidence grew in the fact that I wasn't going to take a dive into the flowing river, the more I guess the serpent got surer of a well deserved bite.
Every step, put still, crawl it took, in-turn earned a backward movement from me.
Holy Morry! This was beginning to turn into a drama, infact a choreography of a sort. This serpent began to appear to me on the one hand a comic act, and the other, a venomous predator that it actually was.
When it jerked, I jerked, when it moved I moved even two steps backward. At some point it took a run at me, poor me, I doubled my pace backward every time with a loud scream. Obviously, this snake was catching fun, but I wasn't, instead I was dying gradually of shock.
Several minutes down the clock, now the evening was fully ripe. The sun had set, and thick dark clouds had began to gather, it was clear to both of us. I mean the serpent and I, that the rain was coming.
Crazy crazy serpent, left for it appearance, I would conclude it was human, infact the devil itself. It has preserved me well for a kill in the middle of nowhere.
Consequently, my instincts began to fail me, I was gradually running out of ideas, my limbs were fast becoming numb, even my usual backward movement began to fail me. This serpent has cast a spell on me, (so I thought). While I was yet in my dilema, it regurgitated a certain undigested part of a mammal it ate moments before we met, leaving me to watch a demo of how I might be bitten or worst still, fed upon.
Certainly it has come to the end (I told myself) seeing that the serpent's hissing had intensified. I took my last draw of breath and was about closing my eyes in total submission to defeat when suddenly I beheld the serpent leap towards me. In a quick turn of events, my instincts again surged to live (ofcourse it never was an easy choice to die) as I took a crazy jump backwards, landing upon my back, only to discover all the serpent wanted was that I got off the bridge since it needed to climb up a dropping branch of the overhead tree to return to its abode.
I gasped for breath, I had just performed a stunt similar to what I looked out for whenever I was seeing any action-thriller classic. My back was hurting, my pelvis felt the more like out of its socket. Not knowing where I was, I turned to see how far I had traveled, alas! I had crossed the dreaded bridge walking backwards, and with the aid of a threat (the serpent).
There it is, rule no 6; "YOUR RESISTANCE MANY A TIMES ARE DRIVERS AND PROPELLANTS TO YOUR DESTINY disguised".
Yyyyyessss!!!!!!!!! I screamed, as if I had done anything noble. But looking at it the other way round, goodness me! I just crossed the bridge, and here I am standing right in front of "Done and co".
Quickly I gathered myself, the excitement of being at the golden gate was all I needed to take the pains I felt away. As if they were expecting me, the gates opened on their own accord immediately I got in front of them.
Welcome to "Done and co" (The 3-gate keepers chorused). Thank you sirs (I muttered) still amazed at the miraculous opening of the gates.
"Lead him to the waiting room" a deep voice uttered (he seemed to be the boss here at the gate). I was led to the waiting room, only to meet the shocker of my life!
The waiting room was a planet on its own, thousands were sited there, all waiting anxiously, it was obvious, their countenance read it. Where exactly did you all go through to get here, how come we never met??? (I asked in amazement) but again, that was for the air, none replied me, as everyone fixed their gaze sternly at the horn speaker atop the one and only door. That was more business and compelling to them.
There it is, rule no 7; "FOR EVERY MAN's JOURNEY, THERE IS A ROAD, PLYING YOURS ALONE NOT ANY OTHER's CAN GET YOU TO YOUR DESTINATION. Immitation could lead to confusion of purpose"
All the while as I journeyed, my mental picture of "Done and co" was a walk-in shop where you get attended to immediately you got in. But this was not to be so, it was so terrible, as terrible as it not even being a matter of a cue. Everyone just sat, not one had a clue to when they will be called in. This was best put a lottery, the beckon came upon whose time was right. And those who got called immediately they got sited were those who had deficiencies to make up for one way or the other, and could possible be heading home to make ammends.
There it is, rule no 8; "THE GOOD THINGS OF LIFE ONLY HAPPENS TO A MAN WHEN HIS TIME IS RIPE AND RIGHT. All Other Exceptions Only Seemed Good, They Actually Aren't ."
This isn't funny, from wanting to be called earnestly, my prayers changed to wanting to be called when my time was right. In anticipation I sat still, legs crossed, waiting for the next call.
My gaze was fixed on that horn speaker, as if to say I listened with my eyes and not my ears. (Return back to my opening phrase of episode 1).
This suspense is fast killing me, for quite some minutes now, I've been hearing my name called. The door continued to open and shut, but the truth is, no one was there!
This illusion will not kill me, I bet I'll see the last of this.
Hurray, the horns blared atlast, eventhough my name wasn't called, the intrigues seem never to stop, as this time a list of names, and not just one name was called.
There it is, rule no 9; "THERE'S NO ONE & ONLY METHOD TO LIFE, LIFE IN ITSELF IS DYNAMIC. THE ONLY CERTAIN THING IS THAT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN."
I needed no soothsayer to tell me that my wait will be a long one, only 10 people had arrived behind me, and if they were to go by our clock in time, then am in for a lifetime of waiting.
There it is, rule no 10; "HOWEVER LONG OR SHORT, A WAIT IS INEVITABLE IN LIFE, THE PHENOMENOM OF SPONTANIETY DOESN'T HOLD WATER OVER HERE"
The wait was getting long, and some were beginning to collapse under the pressure, many had missed their call as they went out of the waiting room to "Catch a breath of fresh air".
There it is, rule no 11; "PERSEVERE, FOR NO MAN KNOWS THE TIME"
Tired, Haggard and Battered, my strength was failing me, as I began to consol myself with the success of getting here at all. This has gone beyond me, my physical strength was exhausted, my eyes began to dim, not for sleep but for extreme exhaustion. As I closed my eyes fainting away. Suddenly, the horns again blared, 'Ola' was the only name called, but I was dead fainted, gone too weak to answer the call as I had slumped.
...This can only be the beginning, am hoping to convince myself and you, ... T h i s I s N o t T h e E n d!
