...IF MY MOBILE PHONE/GADGET COULD SPEAK FOR ITSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BY NOW BE TELLING ME?
A question for one, a question for all.

With the advent of new technology the way of communication is also changed. In very early days of history, pigeons were used as means of communication. Later, written messages are sent through letters by post. As the time passed, telephone came into existence and today is the era of wireless communication which gives rise to mobile phones. Mobiles are the latest invention and common way to communicate now-a-days.
Mobile phones are long range, portable and wireless electronic device of communication. A few years back, when mobile phones were not so common, the device was expensive and communication costs pretty good to the user. But in last a few years as the use of mobiles increased, their cost is decreased considerably and this factor helped a lot to make them available for common men. Mobile phones are now inexpensive, easy to use, and comfortable and equipped with almost every latest feature we desire.

Mobiles are now every one's first choice gadget, either an elderly person or a younger one. It is like a status symbol now. Every persons hand is equipped with latest mobile models and EVERYONE HAS ITS OWN REASON TO HAVE THIS MAGIC GADGET IN HIS HANDS. Every day new models of mobiles come replacing the older ones to lure the users. The interested users especially the young generation is very fond of the latest features provided in new handsets. People like the new ring tones, hello tunes and wallpapers. With this, mp3 and video recording facilities, MMS and Internet facilities are attracting the users to mobile world. Mobile users can't even imagine their world without their handset. The importance of mobiles can be imagined by the reaction of people if they are asked to leave their handset separate from them for a day. Their life got a comma if they are keeping apart of their mobiles.
To write about the situation as obtainable in my country Nigeria, and many parts of the developing world countries, is another page of thoughts on its own. The complimentary purposes (Asides making a phone call or send an sms) of these gadgets many are yet to come to the knowledge of. Most appalling, many just get these gadgets to flaunt their style, create a niche, and create a standard (levels) or merely to keep up with an existing social class.
These categories of people go ahead to get gadgets they do not know how to manipulate nor want to know. All they want from such devices is the pride that comes along with being in possession of such expensive toys/gadgets.
One of the most recent and I must say, annoying experiences I have had with this category of people, was some weeks ago, to be precise, it was mid-April when I stumbled on a post online on a web forum. To think it is the female folks that fall largely into this category of mobile gadget abuse, misuse or under-use would be an erroneous and myopic conclusion. As it stays in Nigeria today, both sexes are culpable.
THE SCENARIO:
A young man who has just bought his copy of the newly launched Blackberry O.S 10 series (Z10) sent a post into that forum where I was actively online at that moment in time. His post read thus;
“Hi guys, I just got my Z10 from slot about a week ago, the phone is madt mehn. I’ve only been making calls and pinging, but I heard from a friend that it can do video calling, pls how can I do it, and where can I see the memory that came with it? Thanks. Don’t 4get to get yours!”
Friends, nothing can spoil a good day for me as much as this post from this fellow did. It’s irritating to state again that many just buy gadgets without even consulting the manual. I mean that post was lame, why on earth will you leave your phone manual in the pack and come publicly on a forum to seek the “How to’s” of your device, I mean the one you lavished so much money on. I would have been more impressed to see some people stick with the pocket friendly, maybe even older mobile phones, than have to see them purchase gadgets they’ll never understand nor ever utilize to its fullest capacity. It isn’t a funny situation to know that many youths of today don’t do anything more with their handheld devices (Blackberry in particular) than PING. Some are better-off; they explore other social networking sites like: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. but is that all a Smartphone was made to do for you? Come on! Wake up! It’s your “Personal Assistant”, your secretary! Don’t just keep it there sending Sms’s, chats, and pinging away destiny; EXPLORE other positive and life changing benefits. These benefits range from as little and inconsequential as a ‘Day Planner’ (often pre-installed on Smartphone) to bigger and more complex benefits like Forex/Stock exchange monitoring apps. Am not here to point out what you can do with that sophisticated device in your possession, rather, am here to let you know you definitely can do more than you are doing now with it. We hardly even maximize these gadgets upto 40% of its possible uses (Too bad).
ECONOMIC ANGLE:
A phone or device that won’t make for you a return (money-wise, economic wise or service/usage wise) an equivalent of AT LEAST half the price of its purchase in the long run, is not worth your buying at all, it’s not even worth your going near it. The internet has provided us with a million and one services accessible via our mobile devices and gadgets, many of which have bettered the lives of those who know and understand the essence of using the phones and/or gadgets in their hands. It’s quite funny to discover after checking random samples of phones, to realize that a large majority don’t even get to use up even half of the backing storage (memory0 available on their phones, and the few who do, waste them on storing non-economically relevant pictures, music and video files. WHY HAVE WE CHOSEN SUCH WAY OF LIFE! I wonder why someone will buy Z10 with manual, and won't read it, but contact 9jabb for how to's which is already and clearly stated in the manual!

There is no doubt that the mobile phones have made the life more easy and comfortable. Everyone is in touch with their family members, friends and other known. If we want to talk with anyone, there is no need to write a letter and have to wait for days to send the message to receiver, just we have to pick the phone and press a number and start talking. Mobile phones are comfortable way of communication over a long distance. Life becomes so easy and fast by holding the mobile phones. YET THERE IS MORE TO WHAT YOU’VE GOT IN YOUR HANDS THAN PLACING CALLS AND CHATS. The pings, the keeks, the buzzes, etc of this world have robbed us of many advantages; the time for a positive change has come!
Mobile phones proved to be a big help in emergencies. Mobile phones are also known as lifesavers as helping people in emergencies. If you get stuck in the middle of the road and find no one for help, you can just use a mobile phone and call for help. Along with the obvious convenience and quick access to help in emergencies big and small, mobile phones can be both economical and essential for travelers trying to stay connected.
Like every coin have two sides, mobiles phones providing a lot of advantages also shows off few disadvantages. Mobile-phone use while driving is common. It is generally agreed that using a hand-held mobile phone while driving is a distraction that brings risk of road traffic accidents. So we need to use hands free sets to avoid such hazards.

A little attention is received recently towards the potential impact of the kind of electromagnetic fields generated by cellular phones on the human brain. Accumulating evidence indicate that microwave radiation from mobile phones may cause serious diseases and disturbances in the physiology. This includes an increased cancer risk and genetic damage, disturbed brain function and other effects. Mobile phone radiation and health concerns have been raised, especially following the enormous increase in the use of wireless mobile telephony throughout the world. Hence, the head set should be kept at reasonable distance from our head and prolonged use of mobile phone should be avoided.
Putting a stop to this article at this junction, the assignment at hand is one of EVALUATION, questions need to be asked.
What exactly do I need this kind of mobile phone or gadgets for?
How much value can it add to my life?
Do I really need a phone or gadget I won’t be able to maximize to profit and benefits?
Are these gadgets solely to boost my ‘SWAG’ or advance me economically, socially, psychologically etc ?
These and many more questions need to be asked and answered, and believe you me, the time is NOW!
