THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an information kit for the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State.
The kit shows a total of 1, 407, 222 valid number of registered voters (post-March 2014 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR)).
This number is spread across the 30 local councils of the state, which has 332 wards (registration areas), 3,010 polling units and 3,379 voting points.
The gender distribution of the voter population indicates that the males are 661,394 (47 per cent) and the females 745,828 (53 per cent).
A breakdown of the voter population by local council areas shows that Atakumosa East has 31,136 registered voters; Atakumosa West (24,569); Ayedaade (51, 252); Ayedire (25,899); Boluwaduro (16,844); Boripe (47,137); Ede North (49,130); Ede South (35,931); Egbedore (33,925) and Ejigbo (51,623).
Ife Central has 95,471 registered voters; Ifedayo (13,066); Ife East (81,430); Ifelodun (57,591); Ife North (45,435); Ife South (44,555); Ila 33,527); Ilesa East (54,746); Ilesa West (52,286) and Irepodun (36,554).
Irewole has 53,487 registered voters; Isokan (38,493); Iwo (66,657); Obokun (37,957); Odo-Otin (48,720); Ola-Oluwa (25,524); Olorunda (71,580); Oriade (47,113); Orolu (24,914) and Osogbo with 110,670 registered voters.
The kit also lists the management team of eight officials, including the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje and their phone numbers; 30 Electoral Officers (EOs), 30 Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) (Admin), 30 Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) (Operations) and 30 Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) (RAC) and their phone numbers and office locations for the 30 local councils of the state.
Besides, the kit displays INEC's dedicated hotlines at its Situation Room in Abuja through which complaints can be lodged or incidents reported from any polling unit throughout Osun State for swift intervention, as may be appropriate.

In all, 20 political parties are fielding nominated candidates and their running mates for the election for which an 11-man Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) is established.
There are 29 accredited observer organisations and their leaders, comprising 19 domestic and 10 foreign groups.
The political parties and their candidates are as follows:

• ADC—Comrade Ojo Gbenga Gabriel (Comrade Adebiyi Adedayo Segun);
• APA—Agboola Azeez Obasanjo (Oseni Kazeem Adebisi);
• APGA—Akintunde Adebimpe Adetunji (Oladitan Olabode Joseph);
• APC—Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola (Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori);
• CPP—Alhaji Rafiu Shehu Anifowose A. (Raji Sofiyat Bodemi);

There are no female governorship candidates, but seven are running mates.
